Associate Professor Shahneen Sandhu

Biography

Associate Professor Shahneen Sandhu is a Consultant Medical Oncologist and a Researcher in the Melanoma and Uro-oncology units at the Peter MacCallum Centre. Additionally, she is Clinical and Trials Lead for the Melanoma Medical Oncology Service.

Associate Professor Sandhu obtained a medical degree from the University of Melbourne, completed her specialist medical oncology training at Peter Mac in 2007 and then subsequently undertook a translational research fellowship at the Royal Marsden Hospital and Institute of Cancer Research’s Drug Development Unit in London, UK between 2007 and 2012. This fellowship involved clinical and translational research with a specific focus on co-development of novel biomarkers and therapeutics for prostate cancer.

Associate Professor Sandhu currently heads up the skin and melanoma medical oncology service and has a keen interest in drug development for melanoma, merkel and prostate cancer. She currently sits on multiple international advisory panels and has been principal investigator on multiple investigator-initiated and practise changing registration studies in melanoma and prostate cancer. She continues to lead clinical, translational and laboratory research in skin cancers and prostate cancer with a major focus on designing and conducting biologically driven clinical trials to translate laboratory findings into new clinical treatments and studying biomarkers of response and resistance to treatment.

Over her career to date, Associate Professor Sandhu has been a recipient of multiple awards to support her research and has published over 190 peer-reviewed research articles including in the following journals: New England Journal of Medicine, Journal of Clinical Oncology, Cancer Cell, Cancer Discovery, Lancet Oncology, Annals of Oncology and others.
