Disability Support Services

We want Peter Mac to be a welcoming and easy-to-use place for people with disabilities. We do this through our Disability Liaison Officer and Disability Accessibility Plan

Peter Mac is committed to improving the care, inclusion, and experience of people with disabilities. Our goal is to make things better and easier for people with disabilities. This includes patients, carers, family members, and staff. Everyone should be able to get the care they need, work here if they want, join in with the community, and be treated with respect and fairness.

At Peter Mac, we define disability as:

“Any condition that in some way affects a person’s mental, sensory, or mobility functions. It may be cause by an accident, trauma, genetics, or disease. A disability may be temporary or permanent, total or partial, lifelong or acquired, visible or non-visible. It does not require a formal diagnosis”

Disability Liaison Officer

The Disability Liaison Officer at Peter Mac supports people with disability, their families, and carers to use hospital services and access the care they need. Contact the Disability Liaison Officer if patients are experiencing barriers to accessing healthcare due to disability.

The Disability Liaison Officer can:

  • Work with the patient’s treating team to help them understand the patient’s specific needs, so they can provide more accessible and inclusive care at Peter Mac
  • Give advice about accessing disability services at other organisations, including the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)

Disability Accessibility Plan 2025 - 2030

Peter Mac’s Disability Accessibility Plan 2025 - 2030 explains how we will improve the care, experience, and inclusion of people with disabilities. Developed with the help of our community, it sets out clear, practical actions to embed accessibility and inclusion across everything we do.

To make sure our plan is accessible for as many people as possible, we have created three versions:

We will publish an update on our progress with this plan at least once per year. We released the plan in late 2025, so the first update will be published by late 2026.
