Genetic testing

The Australian Federal government has approved a Medicare rebate item number for BRCA related genetic testing for women with breast or ovarian cancer

The new Medicare rebate is only available for the genetic testing of a mutation previously identified in a family. The main item number applies only to living individuals who have had a diagnosis of breast cancer and who meet the high-risk criteria. Men who have been diagnosed with breast cancer may be eligible.
