Medical student elective rotations
Peter Mac Medical Student Elective placements are available in Surgical Oncology, Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Cancer Imaging, Palliative Care, Psychiatry/Psycho-Oncology and Haematology.
An Elective placement will involve joining the activities of the Unit, as deemed appropriate by the Head of each Unit. This may include “shadowing” of the Resident/Registrar, attendance at ward rounds, outpatient appointments, surgery, unit meetings and hospital educational activities.
Electives are offered for four or six-week rotations.

How to Apply for a place in 2026
Eligible medical students from Australian and international universities are invited to complete an Expression of Interest (EOI) for a place on the 2026 Peter Mac Medical Student Elective Program.
The Peter Mac Medical Student Elective Program application process includes the following steps:
- The EOI process for 2026 is NOW CLOSED as at 30 June 2025. No further applications will be accepted.
- Shortlisted applicants will be invited to provide further information via our Medical Elective Placement Application course. There is a non-refundable administration fee of $200 if you accept the invitation to complete the application process
- Successful applicants will be invited to complete our Medical Elective Placement Onboarding process, including payment of a non-refundable elective fee of $800 for a 4-week placement or $1200 for a 6-week placement. This fee must be paid before the elective placement can commence
