The Edge of Certainty: Understanding the Fear of Cancer

Join us for the 13th  Trevor Anderson memorial lecture, hosted by Peter Mac’s Psychosocial Oncology Program and the Patient Experience and Wellbeing department. This thought-provoking event will explore fear of cancer recurrence - one of the most common concerns affecting people with cancer.  Professor Haryana Dhillon and Associate Professor Wendy Lam will share global insights on research and treatment, and consumer advocate Glynn Chambers will offer his unique perspective of being both a psychologist and cancer survivor.

Speakers

Professor Haryana Dhillon BSc, MA, PhD.

Professor Haryana Dhillon is a Professor in Psycho-Oncology and Chair of the Psycho-Oncology Cooperative Research Group at The University of Sydney. Haryana has more than 30 years’ experience in clinical cancer research.

Associate Professor Wendy Lam BSc, MSc, RN, PhD.

Associate Professor Wendy  Lam is Head of Behavioural Sciences at the School of Public Health at The University of Hong Kong (HKU). She is also the founding Director of the HKU Jockey Club Institute of Cancer Care and President of the International Psycho-oncology Society.

Glynn Chambers BPsy, MPsychClin.

Mr Glynn Chambers has been a psychologist since 2011. After cancer diagnosis and treatment in 2024, Glynn has developed a new interest in psycho-oncology. He hosts a podcast called Chemotional Rollercoaster, which examines the tumultuous experience of being a cancer patient.

The lecture will be convened by Psychology Educator Ms Vanessa Carty. Two Peter Mac experts will join the panel discussion: Associate Professor Geri McDonald, Director of Patient Experience and Wellbeing, and Dr Maria Ftanou, Director of Psychosocial Oncology.
