Final stretch of ride across Australia: Listen to Gamini's roadside interview
01 May 2025
Gamini Chandrasekara is just days away from completing his coast-to-coast bike ride across Australia.
Around 40 days ago, the Melbourne 63-year-old rolled out of King’s Park in Perth with an epic and yet simple goal to ride east for close to 5000km.
After pedalling over the Nullarbor Plain, South Australia and remote NSW, he crossed the Qld border in recent days. He’s on track to reach the finish line, in Brisbane, this Saturday.
Gamini was interviewed live on ABC radio early today where he said he was battling a side wind but “I’m feeling OK – I’m happy.” Listen to his interview in full below.
Gamini’s motivation for this ride was to “do something good for the world” and support cancer research by raising money for the Peter MacCallum Cancer Foundation.
So far, he has raised close to double his intended $10K. His tally now stands at over $18K and you can still give – and drop Gamini a message of support - on his donate page.
