07 October 2025

Today they were officially launched today by Board Chair Professor Rosemary McKenzie at an event attended by staff, patients, and valued partners.
The Peter Mac Strategy: Innovating for Impact – The Future of Research-Led Cancer Care and The Research Strategic Plan 2025–2030 set ambitious goals and bold targets for the years ahead. Ambitious and agile, they are a roadmap to improving cancer outcomes and experiences globally.
Both were co-designed through intensive collaboration across Peter Mac’s diverse community of patients, carers, staff and partners.
Speaking at the launch event Deputy Chair of Peter Mac’s Consumer Advisory Committee Hande Akcay highlighted the value of patients’ voices, while reflecting on her own experience of cancer.
The organisational strategy defines six key priorities:
-
Advance personalised cancer care and innovation
-
Lead in research and translation
-
Enable staff to thrive
-
Ensure a sustainable future
-
Invest in digital capabilities, and
-
Strengthen global partnerships

The Research Strategic Plan 2025-2030 reaffirms Peter Mac’s commitment to the breadth of cancer research, from discovery science through to translational research, clinical research and health services research.
It focuses on delivering cures, improving survival rates, reducing inequalities, and enhancing quality of life for people with cancer. Several innovative major projects will be delivered through the plan, including one to address cancer cachexia.
Both strategies connect strongly with the Parkville Precinct Strategic Cancer Service Plan 2025–2035, which sets a shared vision for world-class, patient-centred cancer services across Parkville precinct health services.
Peter Mac Board Chair Professor Rosemary McKenzie said: “We can all be proud that Sir Peter MacCallum’s vision has been realised – that of a ‘cancer centre unsurpassed in the world, where humanity, caring service and relentless research share equal value’.”
“We should also be proud of these new strategies, and of our commitment to expanding Peter Mac’s 76-year legacy.”
