Today we welcomed Victorian Health Minister Mary-Anne Thomas for the official launch of the Parkville Precinct Strategic Cancer Service Plan 2025–2035.

The Minister joined clinical leaders, executives and consumer representatives from Peter Mac, The Royal Melbourne Hospital, and The Royal Women’s Hospital to unveil the plan, which sets a 10-year vision for transforming cancer services across the Parkville Precinct.

“At its core, this plan is collaborative, putting patients and carers at the centre of decisions about their care,” said Professor Rosemary McKenzie, Board Chair at Peter Mac, who welcomed guests to the event.

“Equity and ease of access are major themes…and our collective responsibility to continuously improve each patient's cancer experience and outcomes.”

“This plan is robust and practical,” Professor McKenzie said.

“It has been crafted with careful consideration of context - including current trends in cancer diagnosis, cancer care, and challenges within our systems.”

Lisa Shaw-Stuart, Peter Mac’s Deputy Chief Operating Officer, presented the key goals of the plan and the short- and long-term actions needed to make it a reality.

Guests also heard a moving address from Sudhir Sakhuja, a cancer survivor, consumer representative who shared his experience receiving care across multiple Parkville hospitals.

Sudhir’s reflections underscored the importance of a connected, compassionate cancer care system—one that bridges hospital boundaries and prioritises the individual experience.

In closing the event, Peter Mac Chief Executive Professor Jason Payne thanked all contributors to the plan and acknowledged the Victorian Government’s ongoing support.

Peter Mac, The Royal Melbourne Hospital and The Royal Women’s Hospital extend our sincere thanks to all who contributed to the development of the plan – including clinicians, researchers, consumers, operational leaders and partner services.
