11 September 2025

Peter Mac has been rated 14th globally, and top in Australia, in Newsweek’s latest ranking of the world’s best specialised cancer hospitals.

The “World’s Best Specialized Hospitals 2026” rankings were released today with Peter Mac also the only Australian hospital to rank within the world’s top 100 for oncology.

Chief Executive Professor Jason Payne said the ranking reflected the “unwavering dedication, compassion, and expertise of every member of the Peter Mac team”.

“Together, we strive every day not only to deliver outstanding research-led care to our patients but also to lead transformative changes across the healthcare system that make such care possible.”

In all, Newsweek assessed 300 of the world’s best specialised hospitals in oncology. In recent years, Peter Mac has ranked 19th (2023) then 14th (2024), 16th (2025) and now 14th again (2026).

Their assessment includes a worldwide online survey using recommendations from medical professionals, as well as accreditation data and certifications.

Newsweek says the hospitals making its lists “demonstrate the best specialized care, setting the standard for global excellence” and that globally “specialized hospitals are seeing explosive growth as patients search for physicians that provide advanced, targeted care”.

Peter Mac has working relationships with many centres in the top 20 for oncology including MD Anderson Cancer Center (2nd) in Texas, Dana-Farber Brigham Cancer Center (15th) in Boston, and Princess Margaret Cancer Centre (9th) in Toronto.

The Austin Hospital was the next highest Australian oncology hospital, named on the list at 115.

In Newsweek's other "World’s Best Smart Hospitals 2026" list, Peter Mac was also Australia’s top ranked hospital (110th).

This category recognises hospitals which use advanced technology to improve patient care and streamline workflows.
