Peter Mac’s Professor Kelly-Anne Phillips has been inducted into the Victorian Honour Roll of Women in recognition of her commitment and leadership in women’s health.

Professor Phillips, a Medical Oncologist, has dedicated her career to reducing the burden of breast cancer for women and their families which has resulted in international changes to health policy and clinical practice.

Professor Ricky Johnstone, Executive Director of Cancer Research at Peter Mac, noted that each year women who show remarkable leadership and excellence in their field are recognised through the Victorian Honour Roll of Women.

“I could not think of a more deserving candidate," he said.

"Professor Phillips has led pivotal studies that have resulted in effective new drugs for breast cancer treatment and prevention of chemotherapy-induced menopause and infertility.

“She is directly responsible for improved breast cancer outcomes and has helped shape evidence-based clinical care worldwide.”

Professor Phillips said that she is honoured to be recognised for her work and hopes her iPrevent breast cancer prevention tool will help more women avoid breast cancer in the future.

“I led the development of iPrevent to help guide and inform clinicians and women about strategies available to them to minimise their chance of getting breast cancer.

“I am also very proud of the work we have done to protect women’s fertility during treatments, including the PBS listing of goserelin to prevent chemotherapy-induced menopause.

“As the first woman to have become a Professor of Oncology in Victoria, I hope I can continue to inspire and support women to embark on a career in this very rewarding field.”

Breast cancer is the second most common cancer in Australia and is the greatest cause of healthy years of life lost to cancer.

The 2025 Victorian Honour Roll of Women inductees were acknowledged last night at an awards ceremony at the Melbourne Arts Centre.
