Raising awareness and hope on World NET Cancer Day
10 November 2025
Today, for World NET Cancer Day, you’re asked to “raise a cup” for the 31,000 Australians currently living with neuroendocrine cancer.
November 10 is dedicated globally to raising awareness of this cancer which affects the endocrine and nervous system and is becoming more common.
This year over 5,700 Australians will be newly diagnosed with a neuroendocrine tumour (NET), and many of these receive their care via Peter Mac’s NET Service.

“We’re seeing NETs more often, and advances in nuclear medicine are transforming how we diagnose and treat these patients,” explains Associate Professor Grace Kong who is co-chair of Peter Mac’s NET Service along with Professor Michael Michael.
“Continued research and collaboration are key to improving outcomes and ensuring every patient benefits from these innovations.”
The “raise a cup” theme encourages people at morning teas and similar events globally today to raise awareness and support NET cancer research.
Also notably this month, new funding has become available to improve access to Peptide Receptor Radionuclide Therapy (PRRT) for NET patients in Australia.
The Federal Government has approved a new MBS reimbursement for Lu-177 DOTATATE PRRT for NET patients, and this took effect from 1 November.
Peter Mac’s NET Service was the first outside of Europe to be granted “Neuroendocrine Cancer Centre of Excellence” status from the European Neuroendocrine Tumour Society (ENETS).
As part of the ongoing accreditation, ENETS auditors will next visit and assess our service on 19-20 November. They will join the NET MDM, tour the NET clinic and visit pathology and cancer imaging departments.
