Two Peter Mac finalists in the Victorian Public Healthcare Awards

23 October 2025

Peter Mac is proud to be recognised as a finalist in two categories in the 2025 Victorian Public Healthcare Awards.

Peter Mac’s first nomination celebrates a collaboration between the Victorian Adolescent and Young Adult Cancer Service (based at Peter Mac), The Royal Children’s Hospital, the Victorian and Tasmanian Youth Cancer Action Board, and the Paediatric Integrated Cancer Service.

Together, these teams have co-designed a structured program to support young people as they move from children’s cancer services at the Royal Children’s to adult care at Peter Mac.

This transition can be a challenging and emotional time for young people and their families. The project takes a multidisciplinary, co-designed approach, drawing on clinical expertise, youth voices, and family experience to ensure care remains continuous and youth centred.

A video produced as part of the project guides young people through what to expect during their transition, with experts from both services providing reassuring advice.

Peter Mac is also proud to be recognised in the Health Volunteer Team of the Year category. This nomination celebrates the outstanding contributions of skilled volunteer archivists Lyndel Wischer and Bridget Slattery, who researched and curated Peter Mac’s history for an insightful exhibition, video and timeline created to mark Peter Mac’s 75th Anniversary.

This meticulous work has preserved the stories and milestones that have made Peter Mac such a valued Victorian institution. They are sure to inspire generations to come.

Peter Mac Chief Executive Professor Jason Payne said, 'It’s exciting to see these projects recognised among the best of Victoria’s public health achievements.’

'Both projects highlight the collaboration, creativity and compassion that makes Peter Mac so special.’

These nominations continue on from the exceptional success of 2024, in which Peter Mac won Premier's Large Health Service of the Year.

Winners will be announced at the Victorian Public Healthcare Awards ceremony on 26 November.
